How to Achieve Restful Sleep in Islam

Sleep is an essential part of our daily routine that helps us maintain a healthy and active life. In Islam, sleeping is not only seen as a physical need but also as a spiritual act of worship. The Importance of Sleep in Islam

Islam emphasizes the importance of getting enough sleep so that we can function well during the day and fulfill our obligations towards Allah (SWT) and society. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “The eyes may be asleep but the heart remains awake.” This means that even when we are sleeping, our hearts continue to connect with Allah (SWT) through remembrance and supplication.

Recommended Sleeping Time

In Islam, it is recommended for adults to have 6-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. The ideal time for sleeping is between Isha prayer and Fajr prayer because this time period has been mentioned in various Hadiths as the best time for worship.

Preparing Yourself for Sleep

To prepare yourself mentally and physically for sleep, you should perform Wudu or ablution before going to bed. You can also recite some Quranic verses or dua’s before sleeping such as Surah Al-Fatihah or Ayatul Kursi which provide protection from evil spirits.

Additionally, it’s important to avoid any stimulation before bedtime by turning off all electronic devices such as smartphones or laptops at least an hour before going to bed because they emit blue light which can cause insomnia.

Furthermore, one should wear comfortable clothing made from breathable materials like cotton or linen during hot weather conditions while keeping themselves warm with appropriate clothing during cold weather seasons accordingly.

Sleeping Position

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) advised his followers to sleep on their right side with the right hand under the cheek, facing towards Qibla (the direction of Kaaba in Makkah).

This is because sleeping on the right side helps digestion and allows proper airflow through nasal passages. It also prevents damage to internal organs such as stomach or liver.

Prayers Before Sleeping

Muslims should perform two rakats (units) of optional prayer called Tahajjud before going to bed, which is a voluntary act of worship done for Allah (SWT). This prayer can be performed at any time after Isha but before Fajr prayer.
