How to Achieve Gorgeous Waves in Your Hair While You Sleep

As someone with naturally curly hair, I know the struggle of wanting to sleep on my waves without waking up with a frizzy mess. Luckily, there are several tricks and tips to help you achieve beautiful, defined waves even after a night’s rest.

Prep your Hair

Before heading to bed, it’s important to properly prep your hair for sleeping. Start by washing and conditioning your hair as you normally would. Once out of the shower, gently blot excess water from your curls with a microfiber towel or t-shirt – never rub! Next, apply a leave-in conditioner or styling cream to add moisture and define curls.

Pineapple Trick

One popular method for preserving curls while sleeping is called the “pineapple” trick. To do this, gather all of your hair onto the top of your head as if you were creating a high ponytail. But instead of pulling it through completely like a regular ponytail holder would suggest- loosely tie it up so that only half of the length is in the tie while letting some pieces hang down off their own weight around face and neck comfortably.

Sleeping on silk pillowcases can also make a difference in keeping curls intact throughout the night since they create less friction than traditional cotton pillowcases.

Satin Bonnet Method

Another popular option among curly girls is using satin bonnets or scarves designed specifically for protecting hairstyles overnight. Simply place your hair inside the bonnet or wrap it up with the scarf before going to bed – this will protect curls from frizzing due to rubbing against rough fabrics such as cotton sheets.

Morning Routine

When you wake up in the morning don’t be afraid if parts look flattened because those portions can easily be revived! Start by removing any clips/ties/bonnets off carefully not disrupting too much curl pattern then use fingers gently to separate waves. If your curls are looking a little flat, try using a spray bottle and adding some water infused with leave-in conditioner or styling product – this will help re-activate the product you applied the night before.

Avoid Brushing

It’s important to note that brushing curly hair while dry can cause frizz and damage, so it’s best to avoid using brushes altogether. Instead of brushing through your curls, use a wide-toothed comb or just your fingers to gently detangle any knots that may have formed overnight.

Sleeping on waves in hair doesn’t have to be difficult. With the right prep and morning routine, you can wake up with beautifully defined curls every day! Experiment with different methods such as pineapple trick or satin bonnets/scarves until you find what works best for your unique hair type and pattern. Remember not everyone’s sleep style is same so don’t be afraid of trying out new ways if one doesn’t suit because sleeping comfortably is also essential for good health 🙂
